Ballroom Dance Terminology Part 3


Here are more dance terms:

Closed dance position - Using the standard ballroom dance hold with or without diaphragm contact.  The man's right hand is on the lady's left shoulder blade.  His left hand holds the lady's right hand parallel to her right ear.  The lady's left hand is on the deltoid of the man's right shoulder.

Open dance position - Releasing one side of the dance position, holding only one hand.

Outside partner, or parallel dance position (right or left) - This is a dance position in which the man or the lady steps forward or back in line with the partner, but on a parallel line of direction to the left or the right of the partner (outside the dance position).  This is still in closed dance position.
